Object of My Affection: Rising Tide Fair Trade Weekender Bag

Happy Friday! In the spirit of Summer weekend trips to places near and far, I give you: The perfect Weekender bag. There are so many fab options, I had trouble picking just 3 to feature here. At $220, it's not the least expensive bag you'll ever own (or maybe it is - aren't you fancy!), but it might just be the most useful bag you'll ever own. Go ahead and try to pick your fave bag from the countless featured on the website - pack a snack, you'll be there for hours. Here's what Rising Tide Fair Trade has to say about their bags:
Our bags are created from repurposed vintage quilts and cruelty free leather (from naturally deceased animals) and canvas. Rather than using a system of mass production, our bags are produced in a women's cooperative, which has a lower impact on the environment. Our bags are made one at a time by individuals paid a fair wage and treated with dignity and respect.

Fab Friday Find: Ailin's Pin-Tuck Jacket

Have you ever, ever, ever seen a cute windbreaker? Maybe I've been looking for rain protection in all the wrong places, but stylish rain coats have evaded me. I don't mean fancy rain gear - there are plenty of chic trench coats on the market. But something stylish that you might want to wear to the beach on a windy day? Or for when you want to take a stroll with your dog despite the possibility of showers? I didn't think it existed.
And then I found Ailin, my new best friend, who makes all sorts of lovely, eco-friendly activewear and slightly-less-activewear. Like the hard shell pin-tuck jacket above, made of downcycled polyester and bamboo. At $525, it's sadly out of reach... but a girl can dream.
For more eco-friendly activewear, check out my slideshow at StyleHive.
(BTW, no posts next week, but SSTW will be back in action 2/18. Happy V-Day!)

Fab Friday Find! Sexy Summer Bomber Jacket

Swoon! This sassy lil' Kelly Barry bomber-meets-bolero is the absolute pride and joy of my virtual closet. It's totally one of those pieces that you could wear with anything...jeans, cocktail dresses, khaki shorts, you name it. If you do pair with jeans or shorts, I would also add a top. But that's just me being my conservative, shirt-wearing self.
By the by, I wouldn't want to bump into the tough-a & $ chick in this pic in a dark alley. Looks like someone forgot to get grumpypants her skinny soy latte this morning. How in the world could someone be so unhappy in such a fab coat? I hope the photographer stayed away from sharp objects; this lady looks like she could go Naomi C. on someone any second.
Anyhoo, guess what? The coat's made of organic cotton! I bet you already guessed that though, huh? Oh, dear, dear reader, you know me so well. Just for that, I've willed the powers that be to put the coat on sale. $126 at BTCelements.com. Lucky ducks.

A Farewell to Pangaya

Sadly, online eco-boutique Pangaya is in the midst of closing up shop. The only good news to cull from this is the savings (80% off!) to be had as the site winds down. Better hurry -- stock is dwindling quickly and who knows how long items like the above Stewart & Brown Knitted Trumpet Skirt will last.

Tom's Wrap Boots (or, Adios, Uggs!)

As a former rider and eternal horse admirer, I'm a sucker for all things equestrian. Hence, my love of the funky new polo wrap-inspired boots from TOMS -- a love that only grew after watching the boots' latin soap opera-esque promo video. The video is clearly made by the same producers behind the stunning "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" ads.
Anyhoo, as always w/ TOMS, for every pair of boots sold a pair of shoes will be donated to a kid in need. Guilt-free shoe shopping!

Cuteness Overload: Baby Shoes!

The only thing sweeter than a pair of super cute baby shoes is a pair of super cute baby shoes that support a great cause. These vegan Hydra Heart shoes are sold on online at buildanest.com, a nonprofit "microbartering" organization dedicated to supporting female artisans in developing countries. If your kiddo will stay still long enough to have his or her tootsies measured, Molly Puzo of Hydra Heart will make a pair of custom kicks just for junior.
Pssst -- There are some sweet adult styles too!

Vroom Vroom: Kim White Handbags

Buckle your seatbelts, this Kim White bag is speeding to the top of my (very long) wish list! Like a 50-year-old's brand new convertible, this bag is sure to make up for all of my shortcomings. In other words, this bag might be yellow, but it ain't no lemon.
Ok, why all the car references? Cuz Kim White Handbags are made of vintage automotive fabrics! Honk if you're stylish!

Mmmmm....Snack Time!

I would love to say that it's only since becoming a mom that I've been reacquainted with the delightful period of the day that is snack time, but let's be honest: I was enjoying snack time for years before Finley was even a twinkle in my eye. It's not just for kids!
Whether you have bambinos or, like me, you're just a dedicated grazer, the reusable snack bags from PB Green are going to be right up your alley. There's no BPA or phthalates to worry about, just good ol' machine washable cotton in prints so cute you'll be tempted to use your new snack trap as a clutch.
Remember, it's always snack time somewhere... so why not snack in style?

Bringing Sexy Back...in the Kitchen!

Dayum! These Green Wrapz aprons put a whole new spin on the word "saucy." I love the feminine, lingerie-inspired styles...these would definitely help inspire me to whip up something delightfully sinful (just in time for Valentine's Day!). And of course gotta love that they're made with SKAL-certified organic cotton (with hemp and silk trims). Yum!

Super Chic Recycled Leather Bags!

Wow! I am really digging these gorgeous handmade recycled leather bags from Valhalla Brooklyn's Etsy store! I particularly love the red one above...a perfect carry-on bag for weekenders. Love.
I found out about Valhalla from Gretchen's Closet, an online directory of boutiques and discounts. June is "Eco-Month" on the site!
Wanna see other recycled leather bags I heart?

Girls Night Out: Doie Juniper Dress

Well, hello, Friday!
The ladies and I are having a little girls-on-the-town night tonight and of course I'm already wondering what outfit I'll be able to whip together from the depths of my closet. You know what would be perfect? The casual-chic Doie Juniper dress pictured above. It's made of biodegradable bamboo jersey (not that you'd ever throw it away) and available at the delightful ec0-tobi site. How perfect is the little sleeve detail and oh-so-flattering gathering around the neckline? Sigh...

Eco-Chic Makeover for the All-American Shoe (Flip-Flops)

Happy almost-4th, everyone! In honor of beach days and BBQs, I thought it fitting to share these chic 99% recycled leather sandals from Begoodesigns. With their little tassles and leather straps, they're like a cross between preppy boat shoes, beachy flip flops, and hipster gladiator sandals! Love. Plus they're handcrafted, Fair Trade, and the company is a member of 1% For the Planet.
Enjoy a floptastic long weekend!

Happy Friday! Xo, Finley (and her Hanna Anderssons)

That's a wrap on Finley's nursery tour! Thanks so much for taking a peek.
Here's Fi wishing you all a very happy Friday. She's chillin' in her 100% organic cotton Hanna Andersson outfit, courtesy of a friend who introduced us to the awesome brand. Not only are Hanna Andersson clothes extra soft and planet friendly, they also grows with your babe...two rows of snaps on this onesie mean Fi will be wearing it until she's walking! Plus, the pants have pockets -- super critical for a little lady who won't roll out the door without her wallet, keys, and pacifier.
