The Lockout: It's Official

So here we are, the start of the lockout. While it's not something that we were either planning on or looking forward to, we can't stop it.

It's here and it's happening. Unfortunately.

Here are a few ideas that we are throwing around to keep us excited about the sport that we love even without the NHL.

#1 - we will be following the AHL because there are a ton of NHL boys who will be playing and honestly, we don't pay enough attention to the AHL anyway.

If you are a fan of an AHL team or you just know a lot about your team's farm team, hit us up with a nice little overview of your team. We would like to have them before the end of the month.

If you want to do this, use the One-A-Days as a template and send us your drafts. We will be having an AHL Primer coming up before the season starts.

(If you are a fan of any other league and want to participate in this, please help us out. We are only exposed to our NHL team and therefore have little knowledge about the AHL or the ECHL.)

#2 - We will also be following the Junior teams. If you know an inordinate amount about the babies playing in Canada, hit us up. We would love to do a primer on the Canadian Junior teams and what is going on in that part of hockey.

Same deal as the AHL thing, we will like to have a Primer and if you would like to contribute about a certain team, let us know. You can email us with the details or whatever you want. We would love all the help we can get.

#3 - Mouthguard gave us the idea of doing a 'Lockout Diaries' series during the *ahem* lockout. We will be doing various players and highlighting what they're up to during this lockout.

Of course it will be silly and it will be photoshopped and it will be ridiculous. Of course.

#4 - We're gonna start doing some weird series and fun posts to keep us entertained throughout the lockout.

Things such as a 'Bachelorette'-style dating series in October because we think it will be fun to photoshop and do ridiculous things for this.

And a book review of Jeremy Roenick's new book.

And other weird and wacky stuff. If you have any ideas for anything, email or comment and we will put it into the pile of 'THINGS TO DO WHILE LOCKOUT'.

#5 - Hopefully this lockout doesn't last long but we're gonna do our best to keep it entertaining.

If anyone in NY metro area with Comcast cable knows of any non-NHL hockey games being aired, let me know! I would watch AHL and ECHL games if I could.

If you guys become desperate for live hockey you can always try the EIHL (UK league). It's not that bad. Its somewhere between the AHL and ECHL.

The Belfast Giants love us enough to supply us with live streams of every game they play.

All Belfast Giants games are available on a PPV live stream basis at http://www.giantslive.tv . They have 10 Canadians on the active roster.

You can use the link below to watch some KHL games. The link was for one specific game (and I was able to watch some of it, but it started at like 11am and this darn work thing kept interrupting my viewing), but there are 3 "plus" signs (+) - Live is for upcoming games - New is for games that have been played, but you can re-watch & Related is for "older" games [still fairly recent, but not "new" - however that is defined]
