So, we tried to steer away from really talking about the deaths and tragedies that have happened this summer but after what happened today, we couldn't hold it back anymore.
As you all know, a plane carrying the entire Yaroslavl Locomotiv team crashed soon after take-off. Among the team members were several former NHL players and their coach was a former assistant in Detroit.
It seems as though at least one person on every team in the NHL knows someone on the plane and is grieving. The entire hockey community is grieving for all of the losses that happened this summer.
But this news today was literally the tipping point for us this summer. It has been a long and heart-breaking summer for every in the NHL who knew not only the players that were on this plane but also the men who died earlier in the summer.
When tragedies like this happen, there are so many questions. But right now, we couldn't care less about the questions. We just want the deaths and tragedies to stop.
Many NHL players have taken to Twitter to express their condolences and sadness at the news and it is unsettling to see how many people have been affected by these tragedies this summer.
Here is a list of the former NHL players:
Pavol Demitra
Ruslan Salei
Karel Rachunek
Karlis Skrastins
Josef Vasicek
Alexander Vasyunov
Brad McCrimmon (coach)
The worst part is when you think that all of these men had families and people that loved them who are now grieving for the loss of their loved ones. When we think of that, it just doesn't seem fair.
We are sorry if this has been a depressing turn of events in blogger land but sometimes you have to be serious about things. Tomorrow we will be back with our usual programming, of course.

It's just amazing...for me Wade was the tipping point and while alone this plane crash is a horrible tragedy to come right at the end of so much turmoil this summer is unfair.
There's also a really great article on Boogie:

It makes me want to send a copy of "You're Perfect" by P!nk to every enforcer in the NHL so they know they're not just bags of meat. (Well, maybe not Biz...he doesn't need the encouragement..)
Dear Hockey Gods, we're very sorry for what ever has angered you. Could you PLEASE PLEASE stop all this madness. We can't take it any more!
Life is precious. Be grateful for and savor every second or find a way to laugh about it if you're fed up or down. Make somebody else laugh. Reach out even if it seems weird.
It's an honor and a privilege to play even a nanosecond of professional hockey. These guys can't forget that for a nanosecond. They're a brotherhood; they share a kinship and an understanding that can make a huge difference if they put it to work.
I want to laugh, remember and have a cocktail. And I'm with Shanny: Please just make it stop.
Thank you for taking the time to post about this awful tragedy...I woke up thinking about it today. It weighs on everyone I think who loves hockey - as a player, coach, fan, or whatever!
@Jennifer - you are right...awesome article!
