Recent Signings and a Call to Arms (Sort of)

It seems that every team wanted to get things in line before training camp starts. And we feel the same way (more on that later).

- The Bruins signed Brad Marchand to a two-year deal.

- The Islanders signed John Tavares to a six-year deal worth about 5.5 million.

- The Jets signed Zach Bogosian to a two-year deal.

- Erik Gudbranson is ready to set some ladies' panties on fire this season and we cannot wait.

- The Stars will be honoring Karlis Skrastins by wearing a #37 decal on their helmets.

- Speaking of the Stars, they will be filing for bankruptcy and then putting the team up for auction.

- Will Dustin Byfuglien be back with the Jets this season? Many questions surround his arrest and how he may not be available for training camp.

- There are six teams still without a captain. Can you name all six? Noodles could, but that's because she's Rainman when it comes to NHL facts.

A Call To Arms (Sort of):

So training camps start this week, right? We are going to the Penguins camp of course and there are two things we would like to say about it.

1. If you are going to a training camp of your favorite team and want to write up something for us to put here, please do so. We will be publishing any kind of write up that you ladies give to us about the training camps so let us know.

It will be cool because we wish we could go to every single one and take scout notes on the players and have the best fantasy team ever. (insert evil, mad genius laugh)

2. We are attending the Penguins training camp, obviously, and if you would like to meet us we will be posting our position on Twitter on both Saturday and Sunday. Come and say hi or just creepily stalk us like we would do. Either is fine.

Just so everyone understands what's happening...the Stars bankruptcy case has been planned for a very long time now and is need for a clean transaction. Bankruptcy does not affect the day to day operations & it does not mean the team will be moving to Quebec, Hamilton, Flin Flon, or anywhere else. They were supposed to file for bankruptcy today but, there are of course delays. The hope of Stars nation is that the sale of the team will be done by the new year.

In other news concerning Karlis Skrastins...Stars d-man Brad Lukowich will be switching from his usual number 37 to number 47 to honor his teammate. Also, the gang at Defending Big D is gathering stories fans may have of Scratch to be put into a scrapbook for his family. I'm guessing it's not just for Stars fans. So, if anyone else would like to contribute here's the link:

I'd be more than happy to cover Stars training camp. So...if someone would like to sponsor my trip to PEI just let me know. Remember it can be considered a charitable donation which is a tax write-off :).

Shanny,

Thank you for this information! We figured as much but do not really go into detail when we report on the news. So thanks for doing the hard work for us, haha.

Also, thanks for the information about Skrastins. That is such a great thing that Defending Big D is doing.

It is really really heartwarming about the scrapbook...would other sports have fans that go to such lengths? Maybe I'm just biased...

I will be going to the Blackhawks Training Camp Festival (just one day) but I'm sure I'll be able to whip something together...

and did I mention that someone new has made it to Twitter? Yep...

Oh good info Shanny. The bankruptcy story made me squirmy without the details.

That scrapbook idea is amazing. We are doing some sort of tribute to Josef Vasicek at our home opener. A lot of people have been sharing stories and the thing that strikes me is a lot of people have been posting pics of him holding their little kids. Apparently he won a lot of hearts.

I am going to the Caniac Carnival on Sunday which will have a red/white scrimmage. I have no idea if I will get anything written up though! (I am in hockey withdrawal and may pass out just watching the guys skate out on the ice.) But I will keep my eyes and ears open. I once took notes in a bar for a blog. I am a LOSER!

@Esbee - I just checked out the line-up for the Red/White scrimmage & not only is Michael Jordan playing D for the Red team but Tito will be there. Now you must report back to us (meaning me!) on how young Tito looks. BTW, exactly how many Sutters are in the Canes system?

Michal or "MJ" is a TRIP. So funny. I will try to scout out Tito! I need to borrow my mom's camera. And you totally have me calling him Tito now.

We have 3...count them 3 Sutters.
