Tuesday's Good For The News

- Kris Versteeg is now a Flyer. We had to talk Noodles down from the ledge at least twice since the news broke. No one is amused by this, Mr. Burke.

- Apparently, he wasn't really liked in Toronto anyway.

More trade news: FIRESALE IN OTTAWA!

Chris Kelly was traded to the Boston Bruins for a pick or two.

Zach Parise is almost ready to return. Too bad that his team is fighting for the top draft pick in the 2011 Draft. We kid, we kid.

Repercussions of the Penguins/Islanders fight-fest:

- Mario Lemieux had some comments about the way that the league handled the punishments.

- Then Zenon Konopka had something to say about Mario's comments.

- Garth Snow is surprised that the Penguins were not fined along with the Islanders. We were not surprised about that at all.

- Here is the summary of suspensions and fines handed out by the NHL.

- Eric Tangradi doesn't know how concussed he is which isn't so good.

- That same weekend the Penguins bus was in a minor accident in NYC and the team was forced to take cabs to an outside practice in Central Park.

- Ray Shero defends his team with wise words and minimal finger pointing.

- Video of the event:

What we can't believe is Trevor Gillies taunting Tangradi as he is motionless on the ice and in serious pain. Also, who tries to fight a dude after you elbow him in the face? It's disgusting to watch.

What confuses me about the Pen/Isles aftermath is why Bylsma wasn't suspended? It's my understanding that if a player leaves the bench to join a fight, said player gets 10 games auto + a fine & the coach gets one game + a fine. Was the rule changed or something?

@Shanny:

We thought that was odd as well and haven't read anything about why he wasn't. Being at the game, we saw Bylsma grab at Godard to stop him before he jumped off the bench. It was the strangest thing. And you know how inconsistent the league is with enforcing the actual rules so it isn't that surprising. We aren't making excuses but the whole situation wasn't handled correctly on both sides and we are just disappointed that a player was injured and so much negativity came out of this.

I saw an interview with...I forget, some offender...and HE made it sound like the whole shebang was meticulously premeditated, hinging on the video of Flower laughing on the bench as Johnson skated off from clocking DiPietro.

I do agree that emotions are high with the season winding down but yet in the intensely tight Western conference you don't get much beyond a kerfuffle. This wasn't even a good ole fashioned donnybrook--this was vicious.

@Shanny & Noodles and Henrik - in the case of a player leaving the bench the coach is suspending pending a hearing with the NHL. Since the NHL held the hearings before the next Penguins game and the NHL did not impose any further suspension that is why Bylsma did not miss any games. It's weirdly worded, but I don't think there is a manadatory one game suspension for coaches in that situation.
I'm just disgusted that Gillies was suspended fewer games than Godard. While I know that the 10 game suspension for leaving the bench is automatic, after what Gillies did I think he should have been suspended for the rest of the season.
