Definition:
- the shelf that appears between a jersey logo and the collar when you sit down
- happens when a jersey logo is too large and pokes out farther than your body when you sit down
- large jersey + girl body = canyon between logo and collar
How It Started: If you own or have seen a Penguins jersey then you know that the logos are pretty large and if you own a men's jersey then you know that the logo is definitely larger than your body. One game, we were eating nachos and a chip fell and instead of landing on the floor we found it cradled between the jersey logo and the collar. Henrik coined the term for this phenomena.
Used In A Sentence: I was worried that I would lose the M&M I dropped but it landed on the jersey shelf.

One time at the HP, this lady/Power Mom wearing an XXXXXXLLLLLLL Dan Boyle jersey (he's big with the Power Moms) literally extricated one of the jumbo communal ketchup jugs at the concessions for her totebag's worth of cheesy fries. She was trying to eat, squirt and pour at the same time and the bag of fries was in her lap/on her fupa and the ketchup ended up squirting all over her jersey shelf and it looked like the shark had eaten a seal pup or something.
The shelf kerfuffle never happens to yours truly because I stuff/duck tape bags of JetPuffs to my person underneath it, so it appears as if I'm wearing protective gear/padding and thus I not only look like a bonafide hockey player but my jersey fits correctly. So I recommend larding it up, or LOOKING like you're larding it up in all the right places. Strap your boobies down and pad your ass/shoulders with JetPuffs.

Jersey shelf. I love it & will be adding it to my vocab. FYI...the Stars old jerseys (like the one I own) have a pretty impressive jersey shelf.
