It's the day that Markus Naslund's jersey number will be hung in the rafters, officially retired by the Vancouver Canucks.
Macke asked us to do a special post for her since she is currently languishing in her room in Edmonton with the flu and of course we couldn't say no.
She has been ecstatic since the announcement of the jersey retirement of Markus Naslund's number 19 in Vancouver.
We received a text message that just said, "Dude. Markus. Oh my god." At first, we thought that something bad happened to him or that he signed somewhere. But then she cleared it up for us.
Macke has always been in love with Markus Naslund, we think even from birth.

We think it's kind of funny because as an Oilers fan, you would think that she wouldn't love their captain so much. But it was only natural that she was the one who broke the news to us.
All of us here are thrilled that his number is being retired this season. If anyone deserves it, it's Markus. What a human.
He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins but he wasn't a good fit here. Or so our very smart hockey-loving Uncle said to us.

We were young so we thought he was adorable.
Then in Vancouver, Markus started slow but steady, scoring more and more goals as the seasons passed. Late-bloomer.

Markus was the captain of the Canucks for eight seasons. He was one of those guys who benefited from wearing the C.
(His stint with the Rangers didn't happen although Henrik refuses to forget. She liked him there.)
We just want to say congratulations to Markus and we can't wait to cry at the ceremony in a few months.
