That probably wasn't such a hot idea.
We were boo-ed by children. And their parents told them to. We had grown men scream obscenities at us. Other Hawks fans fist-bumped us. It was an eye-opening experience.
It's kind of surprising the amount of hatred that Pens fans have for the Blackhawks. It felt like we were wearing Leafs jerseys.
The game had to be one of the funnest games we've been to this season besides the Rangers 8-2 win. There were almost-fights and Bob Between The Benches and an overtime domination by the Hawks.
When Kris Versteeg scored, Noodles was basically talking through the play. "Oh no watch out, is that Troy BrouweraaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhVERSTEEG!!!!" We're sure that fans around us were angry after that outburst.
After the game, Evgeniya and her sister joined us as we stood outside Gate Two and cheered for the Hawks when they were getting on the bus. Kris Versteeg waved at us and laughed. Cristobal Huet didn't know what to think. And Dustin Byfuglien kept giving Henrik "the eyes".
Our theory is that when a team is from the Western Conference, you're allowed to like them. We will always be Penguins fans but there will be that team that we like almost as much and will cheer for. Except when playing against the Pens.
And is it just us or is the booing of Marian Hossa ridiculous? He played with the Penguins for about three months. He said that he was thinking about staying with the Pens. That doesn't mean for reals. We don't hate him for leaving, he was a loaner and we knew it. And he got what was coming to him, watching the Cup raised twice after losing in the Finals. Twice. We don't boo because it's just stupid.
Now onto better things. Here are a few pictures that Evgeniya and her sister took during warm-ups.

(They're kind of blurry but they're still awesome.)
We had fun at this game despite a couple Pens fans being hostile assholes. But that's expected when you wear the opposing team's jersey. Maybe next time we'll start a rumble in D8.

Good for y'all and your bravery...and the pics might be blurry, but they are still purty!
oh my god, you guys are awesome! it was a good game too!
ps.GREAT pictures!!
Oh well hello there, stretching Patrick Sharp <3
Thanks for sharing!
I'm just about to go through my warmup pics right now! Yours are closer...I had to get the Hawks since I came all the way from Chicago for the game, then I had to rush to get a few of the Pens since I'd never seen them before. Damn, I didn't think to look for the bus afterwards.
The game was fantastic, not bad for my first away game for the Hawks, and first major league game of any kind where I wore the shirt of the opposing team. But I didn't have any trouble, not even after the Pens lost (and I was in a Keith shirt and I know he made a questionable hit in that game).
I really wish these teams got to play more than once a year...it could turn into a real rivalry. Also, Crosby needs to actually play these guys sometime...
Great pictures!! I'm def jealous of your seats!! Verseteeg's goal was amazing, I've never been so happy to be behind the oppositions goal at the Igloo! I didn't get any shit for being in Hawks jersey! And I'm glad! Hope you had fun, nonetheless!!
@ k of c and Hockey and Red High Heels:
If we were up on things then maybe we would have known you would be there. And we could have shown you the Secret of Mellon Arena, aka The Wall. Maybe next time the Pens/Hawks meet...
PS - we're shocked and happy that you didn't get heckled like we did.
delurking for a hot minute to thank you for introducing me to the hawks-their media department makes my life ("Who is the Ladies man?") and I legit like having another team to enjoy. The Pens are my one and only...but its fun to know intimate details of other teams.
BTWs your "Date Night Friday" is amazing. I did enjoy the back of the truck. Rupp is the man. Let it be known that all we did was make smores while he read the story of his epic hat trick to his son.
