A Win Is A Win Is A Win.....Game Sixty-Two: Islanders At Penguins

Penguins 1 - Islanders 0

Instead of writing this recap, we started watching Blue Crush so that's why it's a little wonky. Blue Crush one of those movies where you don't tell people that you like it but the VHS is totally chilling on the bottom of your movie shelf.

Or at least that's what we do.

Anyway...

Last night felt like a playoff game.

It wasn't the game because Henrik fell asleep before the second period (not really but we love to exaggerate). It was the weather. We could actually feel our toes walking back to the car which is a miracle in Pittsburgh.

Sidney Crosby has a tissue-paper groin and decided not to play.

Ryan Whitney was scratched due to family issues. Mellon Arena cheered when his name was announced as being a scratch. Losers.

Kris Letang and Bill Thomas were in. Letang was not that great and he looked nervous and rusty. You think that he would have more to prove but honestly he didn't seem to care.

We were lulled into thinking that this was going to be a tally in the Loss column but somehow, someway the Penguins pulled it out.

Oh wait, not the Penguins. Petr Sykora and Marc-Andre Fleury did. We don't remember a celebration quite like that one in a long time. Petey deserved to celebrate like he won the Cup because he actually has won it before.

What a fucking face, seriously. If Petey leaves, we are hunting Shero down and torturing him horribly even if he offered him a contract.

The in-game video was Pop-up Video with Tyler Kennedy. And as we all know, TK loves the Iditarod: Toughest Race On Earth. And his favorite food is bacon and eggs. Thank god the kid skates faster than anyone else or that kind of food would go straight to his arteries. Just ask Rick Nash.

We hate saying that a game was boring just because there were no goals but...it was boring because nothing was happening. The Penguins would have these dominating shifts where they owned the Islanders but nothing happened. Miroslav Satan was everywhere and we hate saying that because it's his fault that the Penguins aren't making the play offs.

The Islanders aren't a scary team but the shots were pretty even until the third. Fans near us were getting restless and complaining about the Penguins lack of effort. But we saw something different. We saw a team that wanted to win, that was working hard for the win but either not hitting the net or getting saves from Danis.

The Penguins power play still looks stupid. The Islanders had an interesting one with Josh Bailey, Frans Nielsen and Sean Bergenheim as the forwards with Mark Streit and Kyle Okposo on the points. We think that Noodles was the only person in Mellon Arena besides Bobby who actually cared about the Islanders power play personnel.

With about a minute left, Gordon pulled Danis and the Penguins couldn't hit the broadside of Ken Hitchcock with the puck. The only real chance on the empty net was thwarted by Mark Streit throwing his stick across the crease. It was an awesome play.

Speaking of goaltenders, Fleur had a pretty solid game. A shutout for Fleur is better than letting in ten goals in two games or something like that. He didn't have to make any huge saves but there were no rebounds. The flipper pads were calm according to Bob Errey.

All in all, it was a solid game. The boys looked pretty good and the Islanders were just crappy, what we expect from them at all times. The only good thing about them is that John Tavares will be suiting up for them in the near future.

Can't f-ing wait for the Blackhawks/Penguins game. Totally live-blogging that one.
